Soldier Carried Network Solution for Swedish Military

Introduction

This white paper describes how the Swedish Armed Forces benefits from a rugged networking system called Mobile Core Network. The system complements vehicle and container-based platforms and offers unique advantages regarding deployment, cost-effectiveness and environmental requirements for communication in tactical arenas.
The Mobile Core Network system consists of a lightweight, fast-deployable mobile platform based on MilDef 19”/2 products mounted in soldier-carried rugged cases.

Description

The deployable mobile platform based on MilDef 19”/2 products is a collaboration between MilDef and FMV (Swedish Defence Materiel Administration).
The Armed Forced identified the need for lightweight platforms for easy and fast deployments to build a communication network, functioning both as a local network and as a wide area network.
MilDef products meet the toughest requirements for rugged equipment; fanless units for reliability, environmental requirements according to MIL-STD 810, and MIL-STD-461 Ground Army EMC. On request, they are also certified for TEMPEST and other military standards.
By mounting different MilDef 19”/2 products in rugged cases, they combine to form a specialized system, delivering the desired effect, easily deployed even under demanding circumstances in the field.
The system requires no AC cooling, no stationary vehicles, no complicated transports, keeping the lifecycle cost low, system reability high, and the deployment is highly simplified.
The communication between the different nodes consists of long-distance fiber connections, satellite communications, radio etc, and for the LAN cost-effective copper cables are used.
The extensive MilDef portfolio of 19”/2 products, the ability to modify existing products, and the capacity to develop completely new products based on customer requirements, ensures the Swedish Armed Forces longevity and robustness in their choice of MilDef as a trusted partner.
