Rugged routers, firewalls, cellular gateways and communication appliances for tactical network integration.

MilDef RM2100 Series rugged Cisco router in compact 19”/2® form factor

Rugged routers and network appliances for tactical systems

MilDef’s RM Family includes rugged routers and network appliances for tactical platforms, vehicle systems and deployed defense networks. The family supports routing, firewall security, cellular connectivity and voice communication integration in compact 19”/2® form factors.

Across defense networks, different platform roles require different communication functions. Therefore, the RM Family includes Cisco-based routing, Fortinet-based firewall capability, 3G/4G cellular gateway functionality and analog voice integration for VoIP and Unified Communications environments.

For system integrators, the RM Family helps add network services without relying on standard commercial equipment. As a result, MilDef can support tactical IT environments where rugged design, reduced SWaP, long lifecycle support and platform integration are critical.

Secure routing and network services

RM products support routing, switching, firewall security, VPN functionality and cellular connectivity across tactical network architectures. This helps integrators build more complete communication services inside rugged platform environments.

Communication integration

The family supports both IP-based data networks and voice communication integration. For example, RM5100 can connect analog voice devices to IP telephony systems, while RM6200 can support cellular connectivity where fixed network infrastructure is limited.

Compact 19”/2® platform integration

The 19”/2® form factor supports reduced SWaP and flexible mounting in vehicles, shelters, racks and deployed systems. In addition, rugged construction and long lifecycle support help align network appliances with military platform requirements.

Explore the RM router family

The RM Family includes rugged network appliance series for different tactical network roles. RM2100 supports Cisco-based routing, switching, firewall and VPN functions for tactical data networks. RM4100 adds Fortinet-based next-generation firewall capability for compact network security. RM5100 supports analog voice integration into IP telephony and Unified Communications networks. Meanwhile, RM6200 provides 3G/4G cellular gateway functionality for connectivity in remote and mobile environments.

  1. MilDef RM2100 Series rugged Cisco router in compact 19”/2® form factor

    RM2100 Series

    The Tactical Routing Platform

The RM2100 Series serves as the platoon’s central communication hub, optimized for routing and distributing heavy data streams within command posts and headquarters. Built upon a modern high-performance embedded routing core, it guarantees full military interoperability (BGP/OSPF/EIGRP) and seamless integration with existing defense systems. It is the definitive choice for deployments where reliable routing, high-performance encryption, and hardware-validated data security are required at the absolute core of the network.

    Key features:

    • Primary Network Role: High-Performance Tactical Core Gateway
    • Embedded Routing Engine: Guarantees full military standards and native compatibility with existing defense command infrastructure
    • Advanced Crypto Acceleration: Features an onboard cryptographic co-processor enabling fast IPsec VPN throughput (~500+ Mbps)
    • Hardware-Validated Secure Boot: Provides ironclad defense against malicious boot-level exploits via a hardware-validated cryptochip ring protection layer
    • Tactical Zeroization: Support to wipe encryption keys and configuration data during an emergency
    • Optional Integrated Switchboard: Expandable via an internal switch module to add high-density Layer 2/3 hardware switching capabilities
  2. MilDef RM4100 rugged next-generation firewall with Gigabit LAN and WAN interfaces for tactical network security

    RM4100

    The Border Security Shield

The RM4100 Series acts as the network’s outer defensive perimeter (Border Firewall). It is deployed wherever the local tactical network interfaces with untrusted or public external links, such as satellite terminals (SATCOM), commercial broadband, or public cellular networks. Powered by a Next-Generation Security Appliance engine with hardware acceleration, it delivers Next-Generation Firewall (NGFW) capabilities directly to the field, providing total visibility and deep-packet threat analysis without bottlenecking network speeds.

    Key features:

    • Primary Network Role: Ultra-Secure Border Firewall & Security Gateway
    • Hardware-Accelerated Security Core: Leverages a dedicated security ASIC to achieve ultra-high cryptographic speeds of up to 6.5 Gbps for IPsec VPN tunnels
    • Next-Generation Firewall (NGFW): Provides hardware-accelerated Deep Packet Inspection (DPI), Intrusion Detection (IDS), and Intrusion Prevention (IPS)
    • Fail-to-Wire Hardware Bypass: Features a physical bypass pair between WAN1 and LAN Port 4 to maintain critical link integrity during power loss
    • Enterprise-Grade SD-WAN: Implements content-aware Quality of Service (QoS) that intelligently prioritizes traffic based on deep application-type analysis
    • Granular Network Segmentation: Supports rigid zone-based stateful firewall configurations to securely isolate sensitive mission data streams
    • Tactical Zeroization: Support to wipe encryption keys and configuration data during an emergency
  3. MilDef RM5100 Series rugged analog telephone adapter in compact 19”/2® form factor

    RM5100 Series

The Voice Gateway and Telephony Integration Platform

The RM5100 Series is a highly specialized Voice Gateway designed for field shelters and mobile command posts where legacy analog communication systems must be bridged into modern IP networks. Utilizing an integrated Gateway processing core, it acts as an ultra-stable analog-to-IP converter, allowing deployment forces to retain robust, legacy field telephones and wire-bound analog lines while securely carrying voice traffic over modern IP backbones.

    Key features:

    • Primary Network Role: Tactical Voice Gateway (Analog-to-IP Converter)
    • High-Density Analog Interfaces: Configurable with up to 8 physical FXS interfaces (RJ11/RJ45) to connect legacy tactical telephones
    • Voice-Optimized QoS: Features hardware-accelerated echo cancellation and dynamic jitter buffering to ensure crystal-clear voice lines
    • Secure Voice Signaling: Built-in software support for call encryption and secure signalling using SIPS and SRTP protocols
    • Dedicated Voice Processing: Allocates 100% of internal processing power exclusively to local IP voice signalling with a zero-data footprint
    • Tactical Zeroization: Support to wipe encryption keys and configuration data during an emergency
